Thank you all for your advice in my last horse-searching post. I have finally found my first horse, and he arrived at my barn yesterday. I have recently started looking for my very first horse. I am getting into eventing but so far have been held back by the horse I'm leasing (Rambo will make a western pleasure rider very happy one day, but he'll never be a star jumper.) Today was an interesting day. It started with my usual 10am lesson, but I was surprised to find out the horse I was riding was not going to be one of the usual ones. Now, this horse is mostly used by advanced riders, due to the fact that he was only started under saddle when he was 5, so he's a bit of pea brain sometimes. How common is it for your trainer who has helped you to find a horse, to charge a commission? My trainer, who has willingly driven with me hours each way and all the way to Canada to check out multiple horses, charges a 10% commission.
